在艾奥瓦州举行的共和党测验性党团选举中，巴克曼（Michele Bachmann）,以4823票获胜，其得票率,占总票数约28.5%。共有1万6892人,参加了这场测验性投票。
来自得克萨斯州的保罗（Ron Paul）,位居第二，获得4671票；
前明尼苏达州州长波伦蒂（Tim Pawlenty）,以2293票,位居第三。

13日,宣布参选的得州州长佩里的名字,虽没有印在这次测验的选票上，但,支持者,将他的名字,填写到选票上，让他获得718张选票。
前天，佩里,在南卡罗来纳州,正式宣布参选时，不忘痛批总统奥巴马。他告诉一群保守派人士：“我们承担不起-又一个群龙无首的四年。”
他承诺:一旦入主白宫，他将削减政府赤字、降低税收、创造更多就业、推动经济增长,并取消奥巴马推动通过的医疗保险改革法案。
他同时承诺，将削减联邦政府规模，将华盛顿对普通美国人的影响,降至最低。
佩里当天,宣扬自己在得州担任州长,近11年间,取得的成绩。他在得州主政期间，该州工作机会,净增,约100万个。
他说，奥巴马担任总统期间，美国经济并未得到恢复，反而面临灾难，美国主权债务评级,遭标准普尔下调,更证明了奥巴马领导不力。
美国媒体普遍认为，佩里,在共和党总统竞选人中,呼声很高。他拥有大量共和党捐款人的支持，筹款能力,毋庸置疑。他在得州的政绩,与在保守派中的口碑,让他拥有争夺共和党总统候选人提名的坚实基础。
在宣布参选前，多项民意调查结果显示，佩里,在共和党总统竞选人当中,排名靠前，对目前在共和党内“领跑”的罗姆尼,威胁极大。
有报道说，佩里的加入,让共和党竞选阵营,更为强大，这意味着-奥巴马竞选连任,将面临更大挑战。

Before announcing the election, many polls show that Perry, the Republican presidential candidate among the top-ranking, within the current Republican “leader” Romney, a great threat.
There are reports that Perry to join, so the Republican campaign, more powerful, which means that – Obama’s re-election, will face even greater challenges.
