sihong,

Day two of the 46th National Conference has drawn to a close and it has been a monumental day in the history of the Australian Labor Party.

Today Conference delegates passionately debated Chapter 9, “A Fair go for all Australians” as well as the Rules & Constitution of the Australian Labor Party which included debating recommendations from the Bracks / Faulkner / Carr Review2010.

The National Disability Insurance Scheme – A Great Labor Reform
As conference resumed for the day standing orders were suspended to recognise International Day of People with Disabilities, and recognises the Labor Government’s next major reform agenda, creating the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

When implemented the NDIS will stand proud against other great Labor reforms, like the introduction of Medicare, floating the dollar, implemented the aged pension, and introducing superannuation.

Julia Gillard & Ministers Jenny Macklin and Bill Shorten gave extraordinarily passionate speeches about redressing the disadvantage caused by the cruel lottery of disability. There was also a special conference video which you can watch here.

Party Reform

The last debate of the day focused on the recommendations of Review2010 and changes to the Rules & Constitution of the ALP.

Party members debate many motions, and we will have more to say about their implementation over the coming months. Some of the highlight reforms include

an implementation group to investigate direct election of National Conference delegates.
creation of Central Policy Branches across Australia

creation of a National Community Dialogue to engage with progressive organisations
expanding the success of Country Labor across Australia
Conference endorsed with enthusiasm the Prime Minister’s target to recruit 8,000 new Party members.

Marriage Equality and a Conscience Vote

The Labor Party National Conference has moved an amendment to amend the Marriage Act to ensure equal access to marriage under statute for all adult couples irrespective of sex who have a mutual commitment to a shared life.

Further, conference resolved that the matter of same sex marriage can be freely debated at any State or Federal forum of the Australian Labor Party, but any decision reached is not binding on any member of the Party.

It is anticipated that when Parliament next resumes Stephen Jones will move a Private Members bill to amend the Marriage Act.

See photos from the debate & vote.

Conference Tomorrow
On tomorrow’s agenda, Chapter 6 “New Opportunities for Ageing Australia;” Chapter 8 “Preparing for Australian’s future health needs;” Chapter 3, “Building Australia’s Future;” Chapter 11 “Australia’s place in a changing world” & Chapter 10 “Open and accountable Government.”

Party Members are welcome to attend conference tomorrow. Remember if you are intending to come you will need your ALP Party card  to obtain your observers pass.

《Day 1,Day 2,… – Australian Labor National ConferenceAustralian Labor》

U.S. msnbc, the new poll: Newt Gingrich has soared to the first, Romney dropped to third place.
In the high-profile Iowa caucus before the meeting of the month, Kane stop presidential campaign, the new poll: Republican campaign new changes. The new Iowa poll, Gingrich has soared to the first, Romney dropped to third place. Gingrich received 25% of Iowa voters, and the October 29 poll released, an increase of 18 percentage points, when the polls show – Gingrich living in the first five, behind Kane and Romney.

Romney temporarily withstand the attacks of other opponents, battle-hardened Newt Gingrich, should not be underestimated. And Kane, Texas Gov. Rick Perry and Minnesota Rep. Bachmann different, Gingrich is the Iowa caucus meeting in the month before, reaching the peak of popularity, he relied on substantive policy proposals, maintaining voter enthusiasm , more to please the formidable conservative voters.
Kane scandal, Gingrich’s popularity to promote. Former assistant Galen said Gingrich, Newt Gingrich is now the team is like suddenly received millions of dollars in defense contracts, a small engineering company excellent, critical look at his – can not be crushed, scheduled delivery orders .

New poll shows that Paul was promoted to second place, get 18% of the voters. Bachmann’s support rate of 8%, Perry and Sa Tuomu support rate of 6%, Huntsman’s support of 2%.
So far, Gingrich did not vote in campaign ads in Iowa, but has obvious advantages. In the new Iowa poll released before the state a very important newspaper “Sachs Urban Journal” announced – to support Romney campaign, said Romney has the experience, ability and charisma to lead this country.
One month before the Iowa vote, Gingrich leading Romney, 9 percent. Gingrich’s spokesman, said, “Gingrich will be very great importance to Iowa vote, the state election, in the general election, plays a vital role.”.

Some analysts believe that competition in Iowa is far from over, 60 percent of voters said they could change their mind.
